‘How Life Happens’ is a 6 minute short film telling the story of Kosey, a 10-year-old child African refugee, and his experiences in trying to find a place for himself in his new surroundings. The film deals with issues such as identity, acceptance and poverty.
The life of Kosey is shattered when his father is taken by paramilitary forces from his home in East Africa. Kosey and his mother find themselves on the edges of a new emerging city of prosperity and wealth. They have a new life to begin, and for the young Kosey there are universal parallels that take him all the way back to Africa. The film revolves around a fable, that Kosey’s father has told him. Even though Kosey is unaware, the actions of his life mimic those told to him by his father. Henceforth the film takes on the form of a father narrating an ancient tale to his son, and unbeknown to him, the son then living through that same story while on his own journey.
